You do not need to ask permission from anyone to be a journalist. However, it is sometimes useful to be able to identify yourself as a journalist when needed.
In many parts of the world journalists have to carry identification cards. The Ifnm-Press Card / Press Pass is very well suited for this purpose. The words "Press Card" are known and will open thus many a closed door to you. The verification procedure will work via http://www.ifnm.org (verification).
A requirement for a ifnm Press Card / Press Pass is your activity as a freelance or professional journalist. I work as a freelance or professional journalist and confirm this with the recognition of the ifnm terms and conditions.
How much does cost an ifnm Press Card?
One-time fee $ 81 USD | Yearly fee $ 58 USD |
The yearly ifnm Press Card fee will be calculated proportionately for the current year. If a membership commences in September, only the months from September to December will be charged.
Currency note: Our prices are quoted in USD. All EUR prices will
therefore be converted from USD to EUR at current money market
exchange rates.
On receipt of payment your ifnm press card will be sent to you within the next
7-15 business days.
The Press Cards, without exception, will be sent to the address as stated in your application form.
Once your ifnm press card has been processed and shipped out, we do not offer any refunds.
How can I become a ifnm Press Card?
You can complete the application in a few minutes online. To do this just click on the button “sign up”, the rest will be explained in the online application form.
You must be over 18 years of age to apply for a ifnm press card.
ifnm issued Press Cards are valid for up to a year (current year), after which they must (can, no any obligation for you) be renewed.
ifnm will replace a lost or stolen press card / press carr sign. Your replacement press card / press carr sign will have the same expiry date as the lost or stolen press card / press carr sign. The charge for processe and delivery is an additional US $ 15.
If you wish to prolong your membership for another year you will be required to pay the membership fee for the following year.
Renewal only for existing ifnm Press Card members (holders).
Only if you were issued with an ifnm Press Card.
If you wish to receive your new ifnm press card at the end of November / December, the annual membership fee of (US $ 58) for the forthcoming year, for existing ifnm press card members will have to be paid by 20th November of the current year. In addition, each year (at the end of November / December) we will send ifnm members a new press card valid for the following year. Thank you very much for your understanding.
Members who have failed to pay their membership subscriptions will be excluded from ifnm at the latest on 15th January of the following year. The exclusion or termination of ifnm membership will be automatically, and without notice.
In addition to the press card we are also offering members the option to purchase a ifnm press sign for their car. In combination with a valid press card, the car sign is valid till 31. December 2011 (one time fee USD 20).
Even the most experienced journalists are confirming that restrictions on cost free parking in non-parking areas are very common and that there are relativelyfew exceptions. Although there is no legal right for a car press sign, there are usually no problems for vehicles displaying the car press sign while working in the field. The ifnm car press sign can make the difference!
Parking permits, issued in some jurisdictions, exempt news vehicles from certain parking restrictions while on the job. They may be offered to any news-gathering organization that covers breaking news for use in company vehicles employed by full-time or freelance reporters, photographers, and camera operators. Often, these permits are only granted to journalists who already carry a Press Card.

The definition of eligibility is that a card carrier must be working professionally or freelance as a media worker who needs to identify himself or herself in public. The principal occupations covered are reporters, photographers, film and video camera operators and crews and other broadcasting workers, tv, radio, internet journalist etc.
Journalists, photographers and freelance news gatherers working for the international, national, regional or local press can apply for a Press Card through by ifnm.
You agree not use your ifnm membership, Press car sign or ifnm Press Card to gain access for any illegal purposes.
ifnm will cooperate fully with appropriate law enforcement agencies in connection with any and all illegal activities occurring on or through the Services.
The Press Cards are internationally recognized and accepted. They identify the bearer as a freelance or employed journalist.
Ifnm members can be natural or legal persons, independent of which country of origin they have. The membership-status will become effective with the payment of the membership fee. The application for ifnm membership can be submitted online. The acceptance of members may be refused at any time without giving reason; a right to acceptance does not exist.
ifnm charges various types of membership fees: a nonrecurring admission fee (one time fee USD 81 ) and yearly membership fee ( USD 58 ).
ifnm is to be informed concerning all changes to personal details such as address, name or email address. Members agree to the conditions of ifnm and other regulations on acquiring their membership status and oblige themselves to act within these conditions and regulations. On joining, the member agrees that the details he or she has provided may be stored electronically. This information will not be forwarded to third parties.
PLEASE NOTE: In cooperation with various U.S. Government and international law enforcement agencies, we will no longer be able to accept membership applications from the individuals from following countries or regions.

Due to security concerns and other issues, ifnm retains sole rights to refuse membership for any reason. ifnm also reserves the right to request proof of members identity at our sole discretion and verify information submitted on membership applications.
Privacy Policy: The protection of your private data as well as your privacy is very important to us at ifnm. Respecting legal data protection privacy regulations is something we take very seriously. Any personal details entered by users will be protected according to the stipulations of the data privacy act and will not be made accessible to third parties.
